A stuffed beef in a supermarket in Hennigsdorf caused angry reactions on the internet. A photo of the black-furred animal, which has two yellow ear tags and a large wooden sign with its name around its neck, has been widely commented on social media.

An image originally uploaded to Instagram was redistributed by a user whose username is Der Veganer. He wrote: "And just when you think you've seen all the tastelessness of animal exploitation, comes Edeka Henningsdorf and places the stuffed body of a victim of the animal exploitation industry in the middle of liver sausage jars. Unbelievable.” More than 60,000 people saw the tweet by Saturday evening, and by then alone it had received around 1,000 likes.

Others, also angry, commented under the tweet: "I'm at a loss for words". But there were also other voices: "Isn't it important to many vegans that people re-establish the conscious connection between the sausage in the plastic packaging and the actual living being? Then the presentation would be a start, ”said one reaction.

And another said: "Looked at objectively, I see no difference between the stuffed animal and the liverwurst next to it. An animal died for both. And isn't it even more pro-vegan to exhibit the animal there? It creates awareness of where the sausage comes from.”

In any case, the animal protection organization “Peta” reacted with horror in a statement. It said that a "corpse" had been placed between the liverwurst as a "decoration" during the campaign. "Peta" went further and said that for these products "countless conspecifics were tortured by Anton". The organization asked Edeka to remove Anton and "veganize the range of goods".

A spokeswoman for Edeka said when asked by the "FAZ": "The farm has already picked up the model". The edge was an exhibit from a regional farm with free-ranging cattle, which was intended to draw attention to the supplier's products. The customers would have taken this "quite positively".
