Omoda 7, another Chinese car that could be manufactured in Spain

The automobile manufacturer Omoda, belonging to the Chinese group Chery, has presented at its headquarters in Wuhu, about 350 kilometers from Shanghai, the Omoda 7, the second model of the brand that will be marketed in Spain after the Omoda 5, which is already for sale at official Omoda dealers in our country.

The new SUV from the Chinese firm, larger than the Omoda 5, is scheduled to arrive in Spain at the beginning of 2025 and could also be manufactured in the factory that Chery is going to build in the old Nissan facilities in the Barcelona Free Zone.

Chery has already announced that the Omoda 5 will begin production in the last quarter of 2024 at the Barcelona assembly plant, both in its gasoline version and in its 100% electric alternative, the Omoda E5. Then the Jaecoo 7, Chery's second brand in Europe, will begin to be assembled, and later the Omoda 7, the Omoda 9 and even the Omoda 3 could be assembled, three models that will arrive in Spain in 2025.

According to El Mundo, the Omoda 7 will have two versions: a 100% electric one with a range of more than 500 kilometers and another plug-in hybrid with a combined range (between the electric and combustion systems) of up to 1,200 kilometers.

The Omoda 7 has a size of 4.62 meters long by 1.87 wide and 1.67 high, while the wheelbase stretches to 2.70 meters long. That is, 20 cm longer than the Omoda 5 and another 10 above a Hyundai Tucson, a Kia Sportage or a Renault Austral, some of its most direct rivals.

It has a fairly modern design, with a two-tone body and the interior features sporty design seats, a 15.6-inch central multimedia screen, an air purifier and a system that allows all passengers to interact with the car.

In addition, the Omoda 7 has a large 'head up display' that projects the most relevant information for the driver on the windshield. Safety inside and outside the vehicle is handled by 10 ADAS systems supported by five cameras, two radars and 12 sensors.

Omoda also plans to launch the Omoda 9 in 2025, which will be the brand's flagship in Spain, and the Omoda 3, a compact SUV considered key because it aims to be the best-selling in this range and which, in principle, would have two versions: one 100% electric and another self-rechargeable hybrid, without ruling out a pure combustion variant.

Chery has also announced the launch in Spain of the Jaecoo 7 and the Jaecoo 8, two high-performance SUVs with plug-in hybrid technology that will arrive this year and that could also be assembled at the Spanish plant in Barcelona.
