2024 Olympics: Parisian garbage collectors have filed a strike notice

After the civil servants, it is the turn of the Paris garbage collectors to raise the specter of a massive walkout during the Olympic Games. The Waste Treatment Water Sewer Sanitation sector of the City of Paris of the CGT (CGT FTDNEEA) has filed a strike notice for the periods from May 14 to 16, from May 22 to 24 and from July 1 to September 8. All staff of the Department of Cleanliness and Water (DPE) and Municipal Automobile Transport (TAM DILT) are called upon “to participate actively and massively in the strike days and actions”, specifies the central press release. from Montreuil.

85 days before the ceremony, Parisian garbage collectors are putting pressure on the town hall with the aim of obtaining salary increases of 400 euros per month for all employees, as well as an exceptional bonus of 1,900 euros for agents mobilized during the Games Olympics. Other demands specific to each trade are specified in the letter addressed to the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo. “Madame Mayor, the law requires you to receive us to negotiate, we are ready. The agents will decide what action to take and our union organization will put all the means at their disposal at their disposal,” warns the missive.

“We have no intention of spoiling these Olympics. It is a lever of pressure, but if there is pressure, it is because politics does not meet the demands of employees,” explains Christophe Farinet, general secretary of the CGT FTD NEEA, speaking to RMC. “If the Parisian executive hears and negotiates with the CGT, there will be no problem,” he says.
