Premier League: “The team has given up”, notes Mauricio Pochettino after Arsenal’s card

Still in the race for Europe before the match against Arsenal, the Chelsea Blues put a thorn in their side by losing 5-0 at the Emirates. A manita that coach Mauricio Pochettino explains “easily, we did not play from the start of the match”.

The coach was “particularly disappointed” by the start of his players. “This is where we are supposed to with all our energy (...) We were not aggressive” he indicates. “After the opening score, we were too kind (...), we were not focused on situations where it was easy to find a solution.”

After the cruel defeat against Manchester City (0-1) in the FA Cup three days earlier, the Blues' performance was completely different. “Maybe we weren’t fresh,” Pochettino tried to justify.

“At halftime, we discussed making a better recovery. But we didn't do it. When we conceded the 3rd goal (57th), the team gave up.” The coach refused to explain the poor result by injuries, “since the start of the season, we have been missing a lot of players every week. The team wasn’t able to resist, that’s the problem.”

The former PSG coach suffered his biggest defeat of the season this Tuesday. Chelsea are currently 9th in the Premier League, 3 points behind Newcastle in 6th.
