Italy: a grandmother accidentally serves a bottle filled with wine to a baby, he has an alcoholic coma

A serious careless mistake. While wanting to prepare a bottle for her four-month-old grandson, this Monday, April 29, the grandmother of an infant made the mistake of mistaking the bottle of white wine for a bottle of water, according to the information from the Italian daily La Repubblica relayed by Le Parisien. Supposed to mix powdered milk with water, it is actually alcohol that she inadvertently pours into the bottle and gives the child to drink. The latter fell into a coma before being transported to Perrino Hospital in Brindisi, in southern Italy.

After initially drinking the improbable mixture, the baby suddenly refuses to continue his meal. Realizing her mistake, his grandmother “immediately notifies the emergency services”, according to information from the Italian newspaper, but the child, a few months old, plunges into an alcoholic coma.

Under the care of the medical team, the baby underwent gastric lavage before being intubated and transferred to the intensive care unit of the Giovanni XXIII Children's Hospital in Bari.

An investigation was opened by the Brindisi public prosecutor's office, the first elements of which point to a domestic accident. The child's grandmother would have the habit of storing her liquids, water and alcohol, in opaque bottles, thus explaining her mistake. No legal file has yet been opened.
