The Dutchman Adbi Nageeye, Olympic marathon vice-champion at the Tokyo Games, won the Rotterdam Games on Sunday in 2 h 04 min and 45 sec, improving his own Dutch record by 11 seconds.

The Dutchman Adbi Nageeye, Olympic marathon vice-champion at the Tokyo Games, won the Rotterdam Games on Sunday in 2 h 04 min and 45 sec, improving his own Dutch record by 11 seconds.

Abdi Nageeye was just five seconds ahead of the Ethiopian Amedework Walelegn and another Ethiopian, Birhanu Legese, who arrived 31 seconds behind him.

Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, he finished second in the 2021 Tokyo Olympic marathon behind Kenyan legend Eliud Kipchoge. Among the women, it was the Ethiopian Ashete Bekere who won, finishing the 42.195 km in 2h 19 min and 30 sec, ahead of the Kenyans Viola Kibiwot and Selly Chepyego Kaptich.
