Cannes Film Festival: Meryl Streep awarded an honorary Palme d’Or

The first and last time Meryl Streep appeared in Cannes was thirty-five years ago. She received the acting prize for Un cri dans la nuit. The Hollywood legend with 21 Oscar nominations - a record -, known for his roles in cult films like Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Sophie's Choice (1982), On the Road to Madison (1995) and The Devil Wears Prada (2006) will receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, organizers announced.

She will meet in Cannes the president of the jury, Greta Gerwig, director of Barbie, who directed her in her adaptation of “Daughters of Doctor March”. Two other big names in cinema will receive an honorary Palme d'Or this year at Cannes: Star Wars creator George Lucas and, collectively, Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli.
