Ligue 2: Jean-Marc Furlan, Caen coach, laid off

Stade Malherbe Caen has fired its coach Jean-Marc Furlan, the Ligue 2 club announced on Tuesday, a few days after another defeat at Troyes. “Stade Malherbe Caen has decided to lay off as a precautionary measure Jean-Marc Furlan as coach of the professional team,” the club said in a laconic press release.

Appointed coach at Caen this summer, Jean-Marc Furlan, who in his career managed to bring Troyes (in 2005, 2012 and 2015), Brest (2019) and Auxerre (2022) into Ligue 1, is paying for the poor series of his team which remains in nine matches without a victory (six defeats, three draws).

Far from its four inaugural successes and its ephemeral leading position, Caen fell to 12th place in Ligue 2 after its setback at Troyes (2-1) on Saturday for the 13th day of the championship, just three points from the first relegated Bordeaux.

Caen's last victory dates back to the end of August and the reception of Ajaccio (3-0). Furlan is the third Ligue 2 coach to be dismissed by his club after Mathieu Chabert (Dunkirk) and David Guion (Bordeaux).
