The Professional Football League will propose modifying the calendar of PSG and, if they also qualify for the European Cup, Marseille and Lille to “ensure maximum places for French clubs” in continental competitions, it has been learned AFP Thursday to the body.
The proposal will be submitted to the League's board of directors on Friday. Paris SG, who will face Dortmund in the semi-final of the Champions League, will play their first leg on May 1 and the return on May 7. OM and Lille, for their part, are playing their quarter-final return on Thursday evening in the Europa League and the Europa Conference League respectively, with a possible ticket to the last four of these competitions up for grabs.
At this stage, the Parisians must face Nice on May 3 for the 32nd day. The LFP will also propose to postpone the Reims-OM and LOSC-OL meetings scheduled for May 3 if Marseille and Lille qualify on Thursday.
The matches should then be held between the 33rd and penultimate day of the championship on May 11 and the 34th and final day, May 18, both dedicated to multiplexes.
“We are not unaware of the impact and the difficulties that this represents for the opponents of the clubs concerned, but it is in the general interest of the League to ensure a maximum of places for French clubs in the European Cups. Europe and particularly in the Champions League in the years to come,” explains the LFP, adding that “this was rather profitable for Paris SG during its quarter-final.”
Paris SG, Marseille and Lille did not play last weekend, their matches on behalf of the 29th day having been postponed in order to maximize preparation for their quarter-final return legs.
