Cycling: David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) wins the Tour du Jura

David Gaudu returned to success by winning the Tour du Jura on Saturday, giving Groupama-FDJ a second victory in two days after Lenny Martinez on Friday in the Classic Grand Besançon Doubs.

At 27, the Breton, who had not raised his arms since a stage victory at the Critérium du Dauphiné in June 2022, was four seconds ahead of his compatriots Jordan Jegat (TotalEnergies) and Guillaume Martin (Cofidis).

Forced to retire during Paris-Nice, injured in the hand and forced to throw in the towel during the Tour of the Basque Country, Gaudu found his smile again at the cost of a combative finish towards Mont-Poupet.

The leader of the Groupama first returned to Martin, went on the offensive 1.8 km from the finish, then produced a decisive acceleration at the red flame, keeping Martin and the Colombian Jefferson Cepeda at a distance in the last hectometers.

Gaudu, who emerged weakened from an end to the 2023 season that fell short of his expectations and whose status was called into question by the emergence of his young teammates Lenny Martinez and Romain Grégoire, signed the 10th victory of his career.

The start of the race was animated by ten breakaways, led by Alexis Vuillermoz, who were caught around thirty kilometers from the finish.
