The Ivorian striker was forced to withdraw after being hit in the left ankle in the league on Saturday, Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic said on Monday.
Saturday against Borussia Mönchengladbach (Dortmund's 2-1 victory) for his first start since mid-September, Sébastien Haller was tackled in the first seconds of play by defender Nico Elvedi, who in the action touched the left ankle of the Ivorian international striker. He tried to come back but had to resolve to leave his partners in the 10th minute.
“For Sébastien Haller, we have a first diagnosis. He injured his left ankle again. He will have a full week of rest, and we will see on Saturday with a final diagnosis to define a clearer duration of unavailability,” explained Edin Terzic at a press conference. “But we expect him to be unavailable for the next two or three weeks,” added the Borussia Dortmund coach.
To face Atlético this Tuesday evening, Terzic will benefit from the return of the Englishman Jadon Sancho (ill and absent in Gladbach). Out with an injury on Saturday, his compatriot Jamie Bynoe-Gittens “already feels better,” assured Terzic.
