Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté has been authorized to leave the team playing in the African Cup in Ivory Coast to attend the funeral of his father, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) announced on Tuesday.
The death of the player's father occurred on Tuesday in Dakar, and the funeral will be held on Wednesday, said the FSF, presenting "its most saddened condolences to Cheikhou Kouyaté".
The reigning African champions began their CAN with a victory against Gambia (3-0) on Monday in Yamoussoukro, in which the player did not participate. Senegal plays its next match on Friday against Cameroon, still in Yamoussoukro.
