Athletics: Namibian sprinter Christine Mboma will make her return to Kenya

Namibian sprinter Christine Mboma, Olympic vice-champion in the 200m, will make her return, in the 100m, during the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya after an absence of 20 months, the organizers announced on Thursday. Mboma, the first Namibian woman to win an Olympic medal, has not competed since the Commonwealth Games in August 2022 in Birmingham, England, where she won bronze in the half-lap.

The 20-year-old athlete is considered to have “differences in sexual development” (DSD). A 400m specialist, she moved to the 200m due to the regulations on hyperandrogenic athletes.

In 2023, World Athletics changed its regulations and decided that all athletes with DSD could not participate in women's competitions until they reduced their testosterone levels for a period of 6 to 24 months. This decision concerns all distances.

Mboma indicated last year that she was undergoing treatment to lower her testosterone levels. She also injured her adductors during a previous meeting in Nairobi which handicapped her 2022 season.
