The best-selling new car in Spain last month was the Dacia Sandero with 2,813 registered units, 50.5% more than in the same period of the previous year, according to data from Ideauto for the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac ).

The Dacia Sandero was followed by the Renault Clio with 2,397 units registered in May, more than triple that of a year ago, while the Peugeot 208 completed the podium with 2,180 deliveries and an increase of 33.6%.

In the accumulated year, the market leader continues to be the Seat Arona with 11,697 registered units, 19.2% more than in the same period of the previous year. It is closely followed by the Dacia Sandero with 11,309 deliveries and an increase in sales of 72.4%. The Toyota C-HR is third with 9,156 units shipped, 27.2% more than last year.

The big surprise of the year is the MG ZS, which last month repeated the sixth position in April and has already accumulated sales of 4,458 units in the first five months of the year. In May it added another 1,932 units sold and was about to surpass the Seat Arona and the Toyota Corolla, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sales of the Chinese urban SUV have skyrocketed 283% since the beginning of the year and it is already the best-selling Chinese-made model in Spain. The ZS represents 53% of MG sales in the Spanish market, which already exceeds 8,400 units sold, almost five times more than a year ago.

As for brands, Toyota was once again the best seller in May with 7,842 registered units, 2.6% less than the previous year, while Peugeot was second with 6,689 and a drop in sales of 6.2%. Renault completed the podium with 6,638 sales and an increase of 56.8%, while Volkswagen was fourth with 6,540 deliveries (2%) and Kia finished fifth with 6,227 units.

In the accumulated year, Toyota continues to lead the Spanish market with 34,124 registered units, 18.1% more than in 2022. Peugeott follows in second place with 29,771 deliveries (21.8%), while Seat is third with 28,416 sales and an increase of 12.5%. The fourth position is for Kia with 28,061 units shipped (13.5%) and Volkswagen is fifth with 27,874 (13.4%).
