Which professions will recruit the most in 2024?

122,000 server positions, 98,000 advertisements to recruit wine growers, 84,200 job offers for maintenance agents. France Travail has just published its annual survey on workforce needs. In total, there are 2,782,000 positions to be filled throughout the country.

7 out of 10 projects concern establishments with fewer than 50 employees, mainly in services. Unsurprisingly, the hotel and catering sector is in first place for recruiters. At the beginning of April, chef Thierry Marx, president of the Umih employers' union (Union of hotel trades and industries) did not hide his concern about the needs, particularly during the Olympics. “We will be in tension, even in Paris. Usually, we are a little less tense because the market is a little weaker in July and August, this is normal in a city like Paris and other large cities. But overall for the period of the Games, we are still missing staff,” he explained to Franceinfo.

Administrations and health services also feature in the top 3 sectors with the greatest need for labor. Apart from seasonal employment, maintenance workers and home helpers are particularly sought after.

For more than half of the professionals surveyed by France Travail, recruitment is difficult. This is particularly the case in the automobile repair sector where 75% of business leaders say they have difficulty attracting candidates. Construction and other manufacturing activities are also struggling to recruit.

In industry, “1.3 million jobs” will have to be filled in the next ten years, calculated Roland Lescure, Minister Delegate in charge of Industry at the end of 2023. “I am not saying that we will have to open wide the floodgates of economic immigration”, but “in the next ten years, there are particular talents which will be lacking”, warned Roland Lescure.

In detail, it is in Île-de-France that the number of offers is highest (489,900), followed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (321,700) and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (312,900).

The southern regions of France also face a significant need for labor, particularly seasonal workers in agriculture or tourism.
