Pensions: a national day of action for “10% immediate increase” in pensions

She hasn't been talked about much and shouldn't make too much noise. The national day of action for retirees is nevertheless well organized this Tuesday, October 24, at the call of nine trade union organizations including the CGT Retraites, FO UCR and Retraites CFTC. Together, they plead for the “defense of their demands, including a 10% increase in pensions”. “Prices are increasing much more than our pensions and pensions (...) which have not been increased during the year 2023, while average inflation over the last twelve months has reached 5.8%,” they deplore. in a joint press release.

“Since January 1, 2017, the years of President Emmanuel Macron have caused a loss of 9.6% and the equivalent of 2.4 months of pension, and even, for those who suffered the increase in the CSG on January 1, 2018 , 11.5% and 3.6 months of pension", they continue in the press release, explaining that this situation was due to the government's refusal "to apply the law (article L161-25 of the Social Security Code) which stipulates that pensions must be revalued in line with inflation.

Although the Ministry of the Economy announced in September that basic retirement pensions should be increased by 5.2% on January 1, 2024, the unions are demanding more. Together this Tuesday, they want a 10% revaluation of all pensions, estimating that retirees had lost 9.6% of purchasing power since 2017. In addition, they launched an online petition on change.org in which they repeat their wish to obtain an immediate 10% increase in their pensions.

Several mobilizations are being organized today throughout France. A rally is notably planned at the Varenne metro station, at 2 p.m., at the call of retiree union organizations. “In Paris, the gathering, closest to Matignon, will take the petition cards to Elisabeth Borne,” specifies the press release.
