The British government announced on Friday the location in South Yorkshire (central England) of the first of twelve subsidized "investment zones" whose creation was unveiled in March during the presentation of the budget. The zone will focus on high-tech industry and will bring the regions of Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley “around 8,000 new jobs and £1.2 billion (€1.4 billion) in private finance by 2030 “, argues the government in a press release.
The creation of the zone is accompanied by the announcement of an initial investment of more than 80 million pounds (93 million euros) for a portfolio of research and development projects supported by the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing, according to the government statement. London announced in March the creation of twelve “investment zones” focused on technology, the creative sector, life sciences, advanced or “green” industries, located in particular in the north and the center of England. .
Each zone will be supported by an envelope of 80 million pounds over five years that can be used flexibly between aid and tax relief. These will be added to twelve free ports operational or announced across the United Kingdom, also endowed with advantageous taxation.
