Tennis: expeditious, Swiatek qualifies for the 3rd round in Rome

World No.1 Iga Swiatek spent a little over an hour on the Central of the Foro Italico to win her ticket for the 3rd round of the WTA 1000 in Rome against the American Bernarda Pera (71st), swept 6-0 , 6-2, Thursday.

Swiatek, winner of the WTA 1000 in Madrid last weekend, will face Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (41st) in the next round who beat American Sloane Stephens (35th) 6-3, 6-2.

The Pole won the Roman tournament in 2021 and 2022, but fell last year in the quarter-finals against Kazakh Elena Rybakina who then won the title.
