The owner of the JDD, Arnaud Lagardère, came to defend the choice to appoint Geoffroy Lejeune at its head, Tuesday before the writing on strike, but did not "reassure" the latter, indicated the Society of Journalists (SDJ) in a communicated. “Following the meeting this morning of the Sunday Journal teams with Arnaud Lagardère (…), the editorial staff deplores the maintenance of the decision to appoint Geoffroy Lejeune director of the newspaper”, indicated the SDJ.

“Arnaud Lagardère did not reassure the editorial staff. He demonstrated his ignorance of the profile of Geoffroy Lejeune, a person whose values are in total contradiction with those of the newspaper, ”continued the body, which opposes the appointment of this journalist marked on the far right. According to the SDJ, the editorial staff "maintains its strike and will meet on Wednesday morning to vote again on the continuation of the movement". “Arnaud Lagardère says he will not change his mind on the appointment of Mr. Lejeune, nor will we. But we remain open to the construction of an alternative project without Geoffroy Lejeune”, concluded the SDJ.

In an interview published by Le Figaro, Arnaud Lagardère assured that this appointment proceeded from an “economic choice, and not at all ideological”. Many see it as the hand of billionaire Vincent Bolloré, this appointment coming just after the green light given under conditions by the European Commission to Vivendi, the group of Vincent Bolloré, to swallow Lagardère. “I made this decision alone. Neither Vincent Bolloré, nor anyone from Vivendi, was involved”, denied in Le Figaro Arnaud Lagardère, leader of the group of the same name, which owns the JDD.
