Carrefour plans to cut nearly 1,000 jobs in France

The Carrefour distributor is considering the elimination of nearly 1,000 jobs in its headquarters in France, according to a source familiar with the matter on Wednesday, confirming press information. The group declined to comment. “We do not comment, we favor dialogue with the social partners”, indicated the communication from the Carrefour group on Wednesday, after the publication of articles from Letter A or LSA in particular. Letter A indicated that "according to its information, a thousand jobs are targeted on the France perimeter of the group alone" which has offices in Massy and Evry in Essonne, as well as in Mondeville in Calvados, and that the Europe-wide total is 'still being assessed'. A source familiar with the matter assured AFP that the number of positions concerned in France would be less than 1,000.

On the sidelines of the group's General Assembly on Friday, the CFDT union had indicated on Twitter that it expected "a new restructuring which is announced before the end of the year", adding that "trade unions should soon be invited to negotiate a specific Seat amendment for this new departure plan”.

But the trade unions, contacted on Tuesday and Wednesday, have not yet been officially informed of the terms of this expected plan for "transformation of the seats", and preferred to wait for more information before officially positioning themselves. During the presentation of its 2026 strategic plan for the distributor, its CEO Alexandre Bompard announced a new plan for “cost savings” of 4 billion euros, including “significant workforce reductions in each” European seats. The CEO of the group did not give any indication of the extent of these reductions, simply stating that "in Europe, there is enormous potential for pooling to be exploited" and that "everything that must be pooled in our organization will be”.
