Jeremy Allen White to play Bruce Springsteen for biopic

Amy Winehouse, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson... Biopics about music stars follow one another with varying success. Filmmaker Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, The Pale Blue Eye) is also taking this path by making a film about Bruce Springsteen. The project should go behind the scenes of the singer's sixth album, entitled Nebraska. To play the “Boss”, the director chose Jeremy Allen White, awarded the Globen Globes for his role in the hit series The Bear.

The Scott Cooper biopic, titled Deliver Me From Nowhere, is inspired by the eponymous book written by Warren Zanes. The novel, published last May, tells “the fascinating story of the making of what is perhaps Bruce Springsteen’s most surprising album,” according to the singer’s official website. The film will do the same. For Jon Landau, the manager of the “Boss”, the novel is “one of the best ever written about Bruce and his music”. “We are delighted that Scott Cooper has chosen to write and direct the film based on this book,” he told the trade magazine Variety.

The film, produced by 20th Century Studios, has the full support of David Greenbaum, the new president of Walt Disney Studios. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime honor to collaborate with Bruce Springsteen, an inspiring and incomparable artist who means so much to so many people,” he told Variety. The deep authenticity of his story is in good hands with my friend Scott Cooper with whom I am delighted to collaborate again.

Deliver Me From Nowhere will take fans back to the early 1980s and the conception of the album Nebraska, released in 1982. At the time, the “Boss”, at the peak of his career, decided to isolate himself in the New Jersey to produce his sixth record himself, darker and more intimate. The film will retrace the history of this album which has become cult. The release date and the rest of the cast of the biopic have not yet been revealed.
