Disney announces a sequel to Moana and reveals the first images

Eight years after the release of a first feature film, Vaiana will be entitled to a second opus. The film will hit theaters on November 27, Disney reported on social media on Wednesday. “Moana 2 will be released in November,” declared Bob Iger, director of the Studio, on the American channel CNBC. A short trailer for the project was shown. According to a press release, the next feature film will focus on the new adventures of Moana.

“Called by her ancestors”, the Polynesian heroine – dubbed in the original version by Auli’i Cravalho and in the French version by Cerise Calixte – will have to go “to the distant seas of Oceania and to dangerous waters”. The young girl will be accompanied by the demigod Maui, dubbed in the original version by Dwayne Johnson and in French by Anthony Kavanagh. The two protagonists will be chaperoned by a “brand new crew of improbable sailors”, added the company in its press release.

The adventures of Moana should have continued in the form of a series intended for the Disney platform, explained Bob Iger to the CNBC channel. The American firm ultimately decided otherwise.

The first Moana film has accumulated more than a billion hours of viewing on Disney in 2023. When it was released in French theaters in 2016, Moana had dethroned Frozen in France with more than five million admissions. However, the results were more mixed in the rest of the world.
