Cillian Murphy, Oscar for best actor for Oppenheimer

The 47-year-old Irish actor completes the tidal wave in favor of the portrait of the father of the atomic bomb by Christopher Nolan. This Sunday he faced Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), Colman Domingo (Rustin) and Paul Giamatti (Winter).

“I'm a little overwhelmed. Oppenheimer was the most exhilarating adventure I have been offered in twenty years. We all live in Oppenheimer's world for better and for worse. I wanted to dedicate this prize to all the peacemakers,” said the lucky winner.

Piercing blue eyes, high cheekbones, emaciated features, the Cork native had to get used to red carpets, glitter and acceptance speeches. His portrayal of the American physicist Robert Oppenheimer earned him a Golden Globe and a Bafta, the British film awards.

His distinguished career includes notable roles in films like Ken Loach's Irish historical drama The Wind Rises (2006) and Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk (2017). For Nolan, with whom he made six films, he donned the costume of the villain, notably in Batman Begins (2005). Between 2013 and 2022, for fans of the Peaky Blinders series, the actor became synonymous with Tommy Shelby, leader of the Birmingham gang in Interwar England.
