Celine Dion promises a “raw and honest” film about her illness and her life as an artist

While waiting to be able to return to the stage, Céline Dion reveals her heart openly in a documentary in her name. This is at least the promise of the film entitled I am: Céline Dion, released on Prime Video on June 25. Something to delight fans eager to reunite with the Canadian singer, who last performed in New York in March 2020. The pandemic pushed her to postpone her tour but the stiff man syndrome, which she suffered for eight years, forced him to definitively cancel all his commitments.

The documentary, directed by Irene Taylor (Trees, and Other Entanglements), promises to offer audiences “a journey into Céline’s past and present,” according to the singer’s official website. He will reveal his daily battle against stiff man syndrome, a rare disease affecting the central nervous system.

“These last few years have been a great challenge for me, from my diagnosis to learning a way to live with the disease and manage it,” said Céline Dion. As I get back into my career, I realize how much I missed being able to see my fans. During my absence, I wanted to document this part of my life to raise awareness of this little-known disease and help people who share this diagnosis.

Tuesday, on social networks, Céline Dion announced the release date for the end of June, promising a “raw and honest” film about the illness from which the singer suffers but also exclusive behind-the-scenes access to her life as an artist, her wardrobe during her visits to the studio.

Fans haven't seen the singer on stage since March 2020, with her world tour interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The North American and European dates were postponed before being definitively canceled, this time due to his illness. “I really hoped to be ready to go back on stage now, but I realize that I have to be more patient and follow the recommendations of my doctors,” she confided on Instagram, in January 2022.

Almost a year later, the singer revealed on the networks the name of the illness from which she suffers. “It saddens me greatly to have to tell you today that I will not be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February,” she explained. Since this announcement, Celine Dion has considerably reduced her public appearances. The last one dates back to February, during the Grammy Awards, a ceremony during which she presented the album of the year prize to Taylor Swift. Greeted with a standing ovation, the Canadian star urged the audience to “never take for granted the immense love and joy that music brings to [their] lives and to people around the world.”
