Cantona, Ernaux, Binoche… 93 artists demand an “immediate ceasefire in Gaza”

They are actors, singers, directors and even comedians. In total, 93 names from “culture” call for a ceasefire between Palestine and Israel on Monday October 23 in the columns of L’Humanité. After the appeal launched by Hollywood actors last weekend, the French cultural community is making its voice heard. “We come together as artists in the face of ongoing tragedy. We are shocked by the loss of all these precious lives in Israel-Palestine. And we are witnesses to it,” say the signatories of the platform.

Among the 93 signatories, Éric Cantona, Adèle Haenel, Cédric Khan and Reda Kateb. “Horrified” by the attacks of Hamas as well as by the response of the Israeli government, they testify to their “unshakeable will” to defend their “common humanity”.

“Today, decades of occupation deprive Palestinians of their fundamental rights and freedoms,” they explain. Displacing hundreds of thousands of people from their homes — some for the second or third time — would be another catastrophic injustice; it would distance us, as a bonus, from the possibility of a just and lasting peace, of security for both peoples. This cannot happen.”
