Cannes: cardiac arrest on the sidelines of a CGT rally and gas and electricity cuts

A man had to be resuscitated after a cardiac arrest on Tuesday on the sidelines of a CGT demonstration at Cannes station, following the explosion of an agricultural bomb, noted an AFP journalist. At the same time, three men, employees of GRDF and Enedis, were arrested "in flagrante delicto" and placed in police custody, for having cut off gas and electricity in part of the city, according to a police source. .

The elderly man, who was near a gathering, suffered a cardiac arrest after the very loud explosion and was immediately taken care of by a medical team from a CRS company.

“In serious condition, he was first taken care of by a CRS medical team who performed cardiac massage. He was then taken care of by the firefighters”, indicated the police source, specifying at the beginning of the afternoon that the man “was better”.

This rally was organized by the union at 10:30 a.m. against the pension reform in France, outside the perimeter prohibited by the prefecture on the occasion of the Festival. About 160 people, according to the prefecture, gathered in the morning in front of Cannes station, before a speech by the secretary general of the CGT Energy, Sébastien Menesplier.

At the same time, a gas and electricity cut occurred in the city, notably depriving the central police station of power. Many restaurants were deprived of gas, causing disruptions during lunch service, especially on the beaches.

At the beginning of the afternoon, some of these establishments were still not supplied with gas. Electricity and gas "have been restored but, for gas, it takes some time before customers are supplied again," said the police source. Earlier in the morning, the management of Enedis had thwarted a first attempt to cut power to the Cannes-La Bocca power station, which supplies a large part of the city of Cannes.

At the end of April, the CGT Energy had mentioned “energy disturbances”, aimed in particular at the Cannes event, in other words projectors which could go out, for lack of current. However, no cuts have occurred within the Festival since its kick-off last Tuesday.
