a Lot of Fun had you had in the Europa Park in Rust, wrote a man recently in a social Medium, and to every wild path he had accompanied his son: in two seconds, from zero to one hundred, a dive into the deep, loop-the-loops – no Problem at all. But on the way home, in Bombardier's new train, it had become bad, because the have so shaken.
The entry of the man is just one example of the criticism, the patters is currently on the new train FV-Dosto SBB and not tear down it seems. There is talk of dizziness, unusual heating, or small Luggage racks. The most expensive procurement in the history of the railway company has become the debacle.
"For the customers and the staff is not the reliability of the FV-Dosto acceptable."SBB
For 1.9 billion Swiss francs, ordered by the SBB in the year 2010, the new double-deck trains at Bombardier, but has delayed their introduction. In the summer of 2017, the canadian manufacturer delivered with three years ' delay, the first copies of the Twindexx Swiss Express, which is also called FV-Dosto (an abbreviation for long-distance transport double-Decker train). Today, some nine years after the conclusion of the contract, rolls, instead of the 59 purchased trains 12 to a restricted area of application.
For a month they operate on the Interregio-line Basel–Zürich–St. Gallen–Chur and have already caused a number of problems. The trains to limitations at the customer's comfort and serious technical shortcomings. Again and again it comes to cancellations and delays.
The SBB has no other choice than to abandon for the time being, the planned use of the new trains on the parade route of St. Gallen–Geneva-airport. They announced last week in a sharp Communiqué. The current area of operation will only be extended if the vehicles could be used over several weeks, reliably, wrote the SBB. The reliability in the first month of Operation referred to you as "not acceptable" and called for by the manufacturer, Bombardier improvements. Three problems make the SBB to create:
1. Failures due to technical faults
"don't get": The new train FV-Dosto SBB caused many cancellations and delays. (Photo: Keystone)
there was an error with the passenger information system, heating and air conditioning systems as the least Bad option. Much more of an impact puncture in the drive, the doors and the Software. They currently make up two-thirds of all incidents and ensure delays and failures.
This is for the customers annoying, but also for the staff. Always lock the doors. And if the control software is about to strike, the train is literally complained to Hans-Ruedi Schürch, President of the Lokomotiv staff Association (LPV), to "Watson". The train driver was delivered to the electronics completely and had to start the entire operating system, which takes up to 30 minutes. "It is a game from A to Z a funeral."
2. Roll compensation provides for dizziness
The greatest strength of the train turns out to be now, as one of its weaknesses: The FV-Dosto is built in a new variant of the tilting, roll compensation (Wako). It prevents the car to tilt in curves sharply to the outside – something that up to now there was only the one-storey ICN. The FV-Dosto sheet-rich sections up to 15 percent faster.
is pressed carriage, A conventional double-Decker in the curve due to the lateral acceleration to the outside. The new FV-Dosto but can tend to be, thanks to the Wako 2 degrees and lateral acceleration reduce, which acts on the passengers. The ICN is the active tilting technology allows a tilt of up to 8 degrees.
The SBB have not used the Wako, however, yet, like you, on request, to say. "The roll compensation in the case of the shooting of the new trains racks is currently switched off. Because the current timetable does not allow it, the trains arrive faster at your destination," says SBB spokesman Christian Ginsig. In the next few years or until the relevant timetable change, the FV would run Dosto therefore, as a conventional Double-deckers.
Still, it shakes in the FV-Dosto at slow speeds, is already unusually strong, as previous experiences have shown. "It is a new swivel base with new running properties. And the Interaction between the suspension and the Wako technology is not right yet," explains Ginsig. When the trains cross, for example, a plurality of switches, you will falter. Especially for passengers in the upper floor, there is the feeling that the car could flip. Customers call the Dosto therefore Schüttelzug.
That the ride comfort is not optimal, to give the SBB. They are calling on Bombardier to take additional measures for the improvement of the so-called smoothness at low speeds.
3. Only the disabled due to meet

The FV-Dosto has a smaller car cross-section than other in Switzerland, rolling, double-Decker trains. No loss of Comfort, and also in the lower floor there is a decent standing height, had to be created on the floor in there deeper. And that's how the now infamous ramp to the door and thus to the platform edge for which the disabled Association Inclusion Handicap went to court.
at the end of November the Federal administrative court dismissed the appeal by a majority gave Inclusion Handicap but at one point right: the slope of The access ramp must not be more than 15 percent. For wheelchair users this is still too much, says the Association. He calls for a pitch of not more than 12 percent, and further moves the process to the Federal Supreme court.
Faster and more space
For all the criticism forget that the FV-Dosto compared to the traditional double sticks has its advantages. The new train is equipped with energy-efficient motors, which will allow energy savings of around 10 percent. He has a distributed drive system, in the twelve traction motors in the rotary of the eight-piece unit frames. Each car of the train car to a train.
in Addition, the FV-Dosto offers more space than its predecessor. If he is driven with two compositions, are 400 meters in length, up to 1364 seats available, and 300 more than in the previous double-Decker trains.
The maximum speed is similar to that of the IC-Double-Decker about 200 kilometers per hour. In contrast to the old model, the new train could travel, but as already described, faster in curves. The SBB promise of a travel time gain of almost 10 percent. So, for example, the travel time of the route Bern–Lausanne, which currently takes 66 minutes to fall one day to under an hour. As long as the roll compensation is not turned on, but still music of the future.
there was no criticism: In may 2017, the Public will have the first glimpse of the Interior of the new double-Decker train. (Video: Lea Koch)
