The big night of funds

The XXXIV edition of the prestigious EXPANSIÓN-Allfunds awards once again brought together the collective investment sector to recognize the best pension funds and plans of 2022. The event, which was attended by the president of the National Market Commission for Values, Rodrigo Buenaventura, brought together the best professionals in the sector.

The ceremony began with the intervention of Ana I. Pereda, director of EXPANSIÓN, who highlighted that, even during the periods of strong volatility last year, "investors have continued to trust the funds" and that "this trust has been demonstrated with a new asset record" this year, with 326,000 million euros managed by Spanish managers and another 252,000 by international ones.

The president of the CNMV, Rodrigo Buenaventura, pointed out that one of the challenges of the sector is "the low weight of equities in the total portfolios, a consequence of the eminently conservative profile of investors, which requires additional efforts in financial education to understand the role that equities play in long-term portfolios.

The person in charge of supervising the markets ruled out that in Spain risks are being forged for the financial stability of the investment fund sector that are not properly mitigated and monitored or that require urgent regulatory action. For this reason, he affirmed that "it does not seem appropriate to propose in a generic way, for all types of funds, solutions that could harm the profitability of the participant without improving real risk management."

The Salmón Award for the best stock of the year, chosen by EXPANSIÓN readers, went to CaixaBank, which led the Ibex rises in 2022 with a revaluation of 52.11%. The prize was collected by Gonzalo Gortázar, CEO of CaixaBank, who assured that it has been a consequence of "the change in interest rates in the euro area to positive territory, the development of other businesses in recent years, such as insurance and asset management assets and an integration effort that has been successful and has borne fruit in 2022.

Juan Alcaraz, CEO of Allfunds, pointed out that the Allfunds strategy, which already has 1.3 trillion in assets under management from more than 3,000 managers, is set by the managers and distributors and the result has been the launch, among other , from an alternative funds platform.

Augusto Caro, head of ESG at Santander AM, who received the award for Best Solidarity Fund from Santander Solidarity Responsibility, highlighted that solidarity is consistent for the manager and for more than 9 years it has donated more than 22 million euros to more than 50 projects.

The awards recognized the pension funds and plans that performed best in 2022 based on quantitative criteria, as well as the managers with the best track record in different asset classes, in the opinion of a jury made up of the heads of the largest firms. national and international management. This year, as a novelty, new ESG award categories were incorporated (see attached table).
