Spain: Dozens of pigs invade the highway, traffic cut

A traffic jam of pigs has disrupted motorway traffic in Catalonia. Monday afternoon, July 31, on the AP7 motorway north of Barcelona, a car and a truck transporting pigs collided.

Shocked by the impact, the truck doors opened and the animals escaped. The motorway had to be cut in Catalonia, in the direction of France, in order to avoid a new accident, reports the Spanish press.

The firefighters intervened and tried to block with their trucks and the emergency lane. The pigs were recovered, but not all of them survived.

With the animals sheltered and clear of the road, it was necessary to wait for the intervention of a crane to raise the truck, lying on its side in the middle of the tracks. Several kilometers of traffic jams have formed, a very long wait for motorists on the holiday route.
