Mojacar will install an interactive Map with Augmented Reality of the Old Town

Vicente Garcia Egea was the Territorial Delegate of Tourism of the Board of Almeria. He visited Mojacar this past week and learned details about the project that the Levante Almeria City Council will be implementing thanks to the Ministry's aid to encourage the use of information and communication technology in municipal tourist resources. This amount is more than 18,000 euros.

Garcia Egea explained that tourism is experiencing an unstoppable evolution thanks to the rapid advancement of new technologies and the increased use of mobile devices. This means that digitization is becoming a fundamental tool for the dissemination of cultural heritage in municipalities like Mojacar. It is also emerging as an ideal complement to diversify already solid offer of sun and beaches.

According to the territorial manager, one hundred percent of the project was subsidized by the Junta de Andalucia. This amounts to 18,029 euros. He explained that the objective is to create an interactive map using augmented reality, which does not require the use of an application. It presents the "great tourist attraction" of Almeria's historic center in an intuitive and simple way and improves your experience, from the moment you plan your visit to this part of Almeria to the end of your stay.

Tourists can now interact with the Mojacar historic center interactive map using their mobile devices. They can see the location from a new perspective and provide more information. All they need is a QR code. This will activate the map by simply passing the mobile over the QR code.

This digital tool will help Mojacar's "rich cultural heritage" be valued. It will allow for, on one hand, tourist promotion at the origin and the planning and execution of the trip before arrival. On the other, it will give the possibility to visit the old town individually or with groups of cohabitants "in a manner that is one hundred per cent safe and accessible to everyone", as a preventive measure to combat covid.

The territorial manager stated that tourists want to know everything about a destination when they visit it. This can be achieved with augmented reality, geolocation and mobile cameras.

The map's content will contain a maximum 20 points of interest, audio guides, 360-degree photos, videos, and audio guides in different languages. Links to additional information about tourist landmarks will also be included. This application will also allow Mojacar to obtain information in real-time about the number of visitors to the town or their tourist flows. Mojacar can then analyze these data to determine the profile of each visitor and make improvements to its offers to attract more people.

The delegate also stressed that the Ministry of Tourism is committed to improving accessibility in tourist resources of our destinations'. This is an example of this. While we must grow, we remain committed to tourism for all. It is also about being a destination that excels and offers quality.

He also mentioned that the tourism industry was key to economic recovery in the province and the creation of jobs. Therefore, he continued to support the organization. We believe that the administrations should work together to promote the sector. This will also help to establish the population. Mojacar is an example of digitization. It will give visitors a better experience and allow them to provide more information.
