Sensitive for a long time, as the US news agency AP claims to have found out. The NBA superstar may be unavailable for weeks, the AP reports, citing an anonymous person familiar with the situation. James, 38, injured his right foot in the Lakers' 111-108 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. The four-time NBA champion had left the hall limping.
The full extent of the injury is not yet known and will be determined by further tests. Neither the club nor James himself have reported the possibility of a longer absence. Only the picture of the foot from the hotel room provides an indication of this so far.
The NBA star player, who had just replaced Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the best point scorer in league history, will definitely be absent from the away game on Wednesday night with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers have already announced that.
The injury was suffered by German international Dennis Schröder's team-mate against Dallas in the third quarter. "I heard a bang," he said to his teammates. Nevertheless, he initially continued playing because the game was too important in the fight for play-off participation, as James explained afterwards.
After the game, however, it became apparent that he had to pay tribute to the effort. He hobbled through the catacombs, visibly battered. A longer absence of the points guarantor, who is averaging 29.5 points per game this season, would significantly reduce the Lakers' playoff chances.
