Tunis, two suicide bombers will explode near the Usa embassy; 5 injured
Two suicide bombers have detonated this morning in front of the american embassy in Tunis, in the residential area of Berges du Lac, a dozen kilometres from the centre of the capital. The men were on board a motorcycle with explosives, they would have tried to enter the embassy and then would have blown up in the air. The bomb killed the jihadis, wounding five security officers in tunisia (one seriously), and a passer-by, demolishing the covered entrance of the embassy and destroying a car, but apparently without causing any other damage.

The attack seems to return to the center of international attention to the mediterranean Country, and suggests links with the location of Tunis with respect to nearby Libya. The government of president Kais Saied has chosen to side with al Fayed Serraj, at the side of Turkey, and, in a more sheltered, Qatar. The executive Serraj is recognized by the United Nations and is the one that Italy also supports, albeit in recent times, very warm. On the other hand, there is the deployment that supports Khalifa Haftar, “strong man” of Benghazi, supported by Egypt, the united arab Emirates and in a way that is less explicit from Russia and France.

The decision to Tunis – that in essence detached the Country from the muslim Brothers – influenced on the balance of the confrontation between Tripoli and Tobruk. While Turkey is far away and must rely on transport aircraft, by their nature, limited and easily traceable, Tunisia enjoys a common border with Libya. This facilitates the passage of reinforcements and supplies. In particular, there are several reports of a traffic militia jihadists via Tunisia to Libya in the west.

A hypothesis is that the attack on the embassy was only an act of demonstration, in view of the high security measures that defend the embassy. In other words it could be a “side effect” of the traffic of the militia, a signal aimed to admonish Us, that so far are not deployed in an explicit way, but still have designated as “terrorist organization” muslim Brothers. A terrorist action was in the air, say sources in tunisia: in the past few days the Foreign Office had issued a warning to british citizens, pointing to the possibility of attacks on western interests in Tunisia.

The last terrorist attack in Tunis, claimed by Isis, dating back to June 27, 2019. Last 30 January, the president Kais Saied has extended for three months the state of emergency throughout the Country.
