In Deadpool and Wolverine, Ryan and Hugh Jackman explore the depths of the Marvel multiverse

After breaking records with their trailer during the Super Bowl finale, Studio Marvel released the trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine, which is scheduled for release on July 24, 2024. The first trailer for this film has been awaited for six years had been viewed more than 365 million times in 24 hours, thus dethroning that of Spider-Man - No Way Home, which held the previous record with 355 million views in less than a day in 2021.

For this film which celebrates the return to the Marvel fold of the X-Men universe, the superhero played by Ryan Reynolds will explore, like his friends Spider-man or Doctor Strange, the concept of the multiverse. The first images directed by Shawn Levy showed the superhero Deadpool accompanied by the clawed hero Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman. The American actor had abandoned his yellow and blue costume since the film Logan in 2017.

Among the new features presented in the trailer, we discover actor Matthew Macfadyen (Tom Wambsgans in Succession) playing judge Mr. Paradox, a secondary character from Marvel Comics. He could well be one of the leaders of the TVA, (the Court of Anachronistic Variations) the agency responsible for monitoring the different realities of the multiverse and limiting their number.

Deadpool and Wolverine will come face to face with the film's big villain, Cassandra Nova, played by The Crown actress Emma Corrin. Among the nods that Reynolds' films are full of, a fight between Deadpool and Wolverine in a parallel universe in front of the ruins of the 2Oth Century Fox logo, echoing the fall of the studio - which owned the rights to the X-Men - before its acquisition by Disney.

With a release scheduled for July 24, Deadpool and Wolverine, aka Deadpool 3, aims in particular to demonstrate that the Marvel universe in cinema is not dead. Disney has multiplied its disappointments in recent months with productions that are struggling at the box office, such as The Marvels or the latest Ant-Man. The pressure is all the greater as it will be the only film in the franchise scheduled this year. The 2025 calendar will be fuller with Captain America 4, a new version of Fantastic 4, Thunderbolts and Blade.
