Top 14: after Manu Tuilagi, Bayonne recruits Parisian Giovanni Habel-Küffner

Samoan third row Giovanni Habel-Küffner, who has been playing for two seasons at Stade Français, will play in Bayonne for the next three seasons, the Basque club announced on Thursday. Habel-Küffner, 29, a native of Auckland, discovered French rugby in Pau where he stayed for seven years. He has 133 appearances in the Top 14 (12 tries scored) with the Section and Stade Français.

Last November, he stood out in the news section by fighting with a member of the Pau staff during a night out with his Stade Français teammates which had not been authorized by the Parisian staff after a defeat in Béarn. He received an internal sanction of 3 weeks of layoff.

In Bayonne, he will find the English international center Manu Tuilagi, who signed up on Tuesday for two seasons with Aviron, with whom he shares the same Samoan origins.
