Serie A: Roma wins derby against Lazio

AS Roma won the 183rd edition of the Roman derby (1-0) against Lazio for the 31st day of the Italian Championship on Saturday. The only goal of the match was scored just before the break with a header by Gianluca Mancini (42nd).

It allows Roma to consolidate its 5th place (55 points) and Daniele De Rossi to claim a long-term contract with an eighth success in eleven Serie A matches since his arrival in mid-January to replace Jose Mourinho.

Former OM coach Igor Tudor, in office for ten days, conceded a second defeat in four days after a setback on Tuesday in the semi-final of the Italian Cup against Juventus (2-0). Lazio remains 7th, but can finish the weekend in 10th place, far from the qualifying places for Europe.

Well before kick-off, on Saturday morning, clashes took place between several hundred ultras from the two clubs. The police, who had classified this match as “high risk”, arrested two people and seized a hammer, baseball bats and other paving stones.

No major incidents were reported in the stands of the Olympic Stadium during the match. In January, the last confrontation between Roma and Lazio, in the Italian Cup (Lazio won 1-0) was marred by violence and racist insults.
