Polish Juventus Turin goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was operated on for a broken nose, his club, 3rd in the Italian Championship, announced on Sunday. “After the match against Torino, Wojciech Szczesny underwent an operation to reduce a fracture of the bones of his nose,” explained Juve in a press release, specifying that the intervention had “gone perfectly”.
The duration of his unavailability has not been specified, but Szczesny is expected to be out of at least Juve's next league match, against Cagliari on Friday. Szczesny, who will turn 34 this week, played the entire derby against Torino on Saturday which ended in a draw (0-0). However, he remained on the ground for a long time at the end of the match after a collision with a Torino player, but was able to finish the match.
Szczesny is the goalkeeper of Poland which will face the Netherlands, Austria and France in Group D during Euro-2024 in Germany (June 14-July 14).
