Rugby World Cup: the All Blacks beat Uruguay and reach the quarter-finals

New Zealand will be there for the quarter-finals of the 2023 World Cup. Unsurprisingly, the All Blacks gave Uruguay no chance on Thursday in Lyon (73-0). The Teros showed a combative face but were eliminated.

The teammates of Will Jordan, author of two tries (34th, 65th), temporarily take the lead in Pool A before the France-Italy result on Friday (9 p.m.).

On the pitch at Groupama Stadium, it took the New Zealanders 20 minutes to launch the unstoppable machine. After a first try refused for Roigard (8th), Uruguay thought they would create a sensation but Ardao put his foot in touch before flattening (13th). Never two without three, a new try was not awarded, the second for the All Blacks and McKenzie (17th). Facts of the game which only delayed the inevitable deadline.

Three minutes later, McKenzie finally found the opening (20th), then imitated by Mo’unga (24th). The opening half of the triple world champions, very effective in front of the poles despite two failures, made the break alone (14-0). Already in difficulty on a physical level, the Teros folded at the end of the first act, conceding two new tries scored by Jordan (34th) - on a brilliant inspiration from McKenzie - and Roigard (38th) to pocket the offensive bonus.

38-0 at the break, the ordeal had barely begun for the Uruguayans. In the second half, Ian Foster's players showed their rugby while conceding no points. Newell (45th), Fainga'Anuku with a hat-trick (49th, 68th, 77th), McKenzie (53rd) and Jordan (65th) for the double as well as Williams (73rd) added their stone to the building by flattening behind the line . Completely crushed in the melee, the South Americans never gave up their arms but the march was far too high in the face of such a concentrated and diligent New Zealand. The backs took care of their statistics, the scorers only left a few points on the way. All the lights are green or almost for Ian Foster's team, who however lost their pillar Lomax to injury at the start of the game.

Qualified for the quarter-finals of this World Cup, the All Blacks finished with a record of 15 points in Pool A which allows them to occupy first place before the possible victory of the XV of France on Friday evening against Italy. If the Blues assume their status, the New Zealanders will finish second in the group and will face the winner of Pool B. Certainly Ireland or South Africa, or even Scotland in the event of an incredible scenario this weekend.
