Tottenham grabbed fourth place, qualifying for the Champions League, at the expense of Aston Villa thanks to their 3-1 victory on Sunday at home against low-ranked Nottingham Forest.
The “Spurs” have 60 points, like the “Villans” hung on Saturday by Brentford (3-3), but they go ahead by virtue of a better goal difference, and with one more match to play.
Held in a 1-1 draw at half-time, Tottenham made the difference in the second half thanks to goals from their defenders Micky van de Ven (53rd, 2-1) and Pedro Porro (58th, 3-1).
The north London club faces a particularly tough schedule at the end of the season with, among others, posters against Newcastle, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. As for Nottingham, seventeenth, it only owes its presence outside the red zone to a more favorable “goal average” than Luton, first relegated.
