Manchester United need a new striker to solve their goalscoring problems, manager Erik ten Hag said ahead of Saturday's trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League. Manchester United have scored 45 goals this season, making them the least prolific team among the top 10 teams in the rankings.

Dane Rasmus Hojlund, 21, who was signed for 72 million pounds ($90 million) in August, has scored 13 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions. Anthony Martial has scored twice this season and has been injured since January. The club has been able to count on the help of Argentine left winger Alejandro Garnacho, who has scored nine goals in 41 appearances, while Marcus Rashford, scorer of 30 goals last season, has scored eight in 38 matches.

Ten Hag had ruled out the possibility of signing a striker in the January transfer window, citing Financial Fair Play rules, but have now confirmed their plans for next season. “I think it would help,” the Dutch manager told reporters on Friday. “We need more options. We need a dual position at each position. "There are positions where we haven't had a choice this season - the striker position, the left-back position - and that has had a negative impact on the results."

“We are working in the background on plans with the recruiters. The plan is ready, but we have to execute it.” The manager added that he was open to ideas from the club's new owners, hoping they would work together.
