Football: Dani Alves sentenced to four and a half years in prison for rape

Two weeks after the end of his trial in Barcelona, the verdict was delivered. Dani Alves (40), the former right side of the Blaugrana, Paris SG and Juventus Turin, was sentenced this Thursday by the higher court of justice in the Catalan capital to four and a half years in prison. The Brazilian was prosecuted for the rape – “sexual assault with penetration”, in the terms of Spanish justice – of a 23-year-old young woman in the toilets of a nightclub in Barcelona, on the night of December 30 to 31, 2022 .

The former football star was also sentenced to pay 150,000 euros to the victim, five years of supervised release once his sentence has been served and to stay away from the victim for nine and a half years. “The victim did not consent and there is evidence which, beyond the testimony of the complainant, allows the rape to be considered proven,” the Barcelona court said in a press release. As a reminder, at the end of the trial, the prosecution requested nine and a half years in prison for the ex-player. More information to follow
