"We worked to find every piece of evidence we can, we attempted to send this on the CDC, strove to operate together with the Chinese. They covered it up horribly," Pompeo explained.
He said the mix of circumstantial evidence and China's extreme attempt to deny any advice having to do with the laboratory indicates to him that the virus originated from that laboratory.
"I have not seen a shred of proof to indicate anything on the contrary," Pompeo explained.
The former secretary of state warned that similar situations could occur later on, pointing towards the possibility of biological warfare.
"The threat something like this occurs again from this lab or a different Chinese lab is quite real," Pompeo explained. "They [China] are working and conducting activities which are inconsistent with their capability to secure these centers. And the chance of bioweapons and bioterror emanating from this area is quite real."
It remains uncertain where the virus originated since Biden government officials express concerns over Chinese interference from investigative efforts.
