Martínez-Almeida: "Madrid will continue to encourage legal certainty"

The EXPANSIÓN newspaper, leader in economic, financial and business information, held this Thursday at the Duques de Pastrana Complex in Madrid the gala for the Awards for Excellence in the Practice of Business Law, an event that has the support of Santander as main sponsor, in addition to IE Law School as technical secretariat and Intertrust and Lefebvre as sponsors.

The eighth edition of these awards, which have already become the great event for the Spanish legal profession, was chaired by the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida. Present at the ceremony were the presidents and managing partners of the main law firms operating in our country, as well as secretaries of the board of Ibex 35 companies and renowned jurists, including former Justice Minister José María Michavila.

In this eighth edition of the Expansión Jurídico Awards, a total of 305 candidacies have been received from more than a hundred law firms and other entities that aspired to awards that are articulated around 24 categories that recognize the work of law firms and in-house legal departments dedicated to business law, as well as the attorneys who work for them.

The mayor of Madrid assured that one of the hallmarks of the capital are its legal operators. "They are the Madrid brand and they elevate the Spain brand, demonstrating why we are considered one of the capitals of Law." The state lawyer on leave of absence, who has just been re-elected as councilor, promised to follow the "recipe" that he has been "applying in the last five years", noting that this start of the legislature "is not a point of arrival, it is a starting point ". Thus, Martínez-Almeida identified his commitment to regulatory simplification. "We are going to continue adopting measures that encourage legal security and economic activity, the path that will allow us to advance and consolidate the situation in Madrid", a task that according to the councilor has led Madrid "to live the best moment of its history".

However, the mayor reaffirmed his commitment to the "bubbly" talent of the city he runs, for which he promised to "create the conditions for young people to find qualified employment."

Ana I. Pereda, director of EXPANSIÓN, referred to the pre-electoral environment, with the possibility, according to surveys, of a change of government, "and legislative transformation always opens before a political event of such significance." Thus, she highlighted the importance of legal certainty to attract investment and favor business operations, pointing out, in this sense, that "in Spain we have great room for improvement".
