Extra services away for years - newcomers hit hard

– She has five children and was excited about the job, but now they have told her that she will not be allowed to continue. The same thing with several teachers who were at the time to get a job in the schools here. To be in a workplace , to learn English and socialise with others is so much better than sitting at home. But I think more and more now will be stuck at home.

For three and a half years, she came herself to Sweden from Syria, where she was a teacher of Arabic. Her first job was as a resource in the school in Garda at Ljugarn on the east of the island of Gotland, where there was a refugee centre, and she helped Arabic-speaking newly arrived children.

When the reception centre was closed ended fixed-term employment, and she was instead extratjänsten at Hemse folk high school, where she has been assistant, studiehandläggare and interpreted both the Swedish language and Swedish culture to their compatriots.

the 63-year-old Anna-Lisa Rosell in Sandviken, sweden, where 350 people today have an additional service. Anna-Lisa Rosell has only primary education, and has through life been working as a maid and in heavy industry.
