Humanitarian corridors, new arrivals of 86 syrian refugees from Lebanon

the ROME - next Friday, January 31st, will arrive in Rome 86 syrian refugee from Lebanon, thanks to the humanitarian corridors promoted by the Community of Sant'egidio, Federazione delle Chiese Evangeliche in Italy and the Waldensian Board, in agreement with the ministries of Interior and Foreign affairs. As the more than 2,000 people come so far in our Country, the refugees will be welcomed by associations, parishes and communities in various Italian regions and immediately start on a path of integration, through language learning for adults, schools for children and job placement once you have obtained the status of refugee. The humanitarian corridors, entirely self-funded (from the collection funds of Sant'egidio, and from 8 per thousand of the waldensian Board) and made possible thanks to a network of diffused hospitality, represent an effective model, which combines solidarity and security, so much so that has already been replicated in other Countries such as France, Belgium and Andorra, allowing the arrival in Europe, so legal and safe, of over 3000 people by February 2016.

Four years of work in the pathways of integration. Four years of commitment of the civil society show that it is possible not only to save those in danger of falling into the hands of human traffickers, but also initiate pathways of integration. In a time in which to resurface the disturbing manifestations of racism and intolerance, the model initiated by Sant'egidio and the protestant Churches – which then replicated with other organizations and associations – has received the consensus of many and it is powered thanks to the generosity of many italians – some of whom have even offered their homes for hospitality – that are activated in a voluntary and free of charge.

The arrival at Fiumicino at 10.30 am. the appointment for the welcome to the refugees is fixed for 10.30 am on Friday 31 January, with the arrival of journalists from within and not later than 9.30 on the departure of Terminal 3-Fiumicino airport (gate 3, next to information office). There will be Daniela Pompei, head of services to migrants, refugees and roma people of the Community of Sant'egidio, and Federica Brizi, responsible for the acceptance of the FCEI.
