The technical control of the two wheels will cost "less than 50 euros", assures Clément Beaune

If the compulsory technical control of two-wheelers is slow to emerge, the executive begins to draw the outlines. The Minister of Transport specified this Wednesday morning on RTL that it should be applied "certainly by the end of the year". Its implementation is indeed conditional on the application of a decree which should be effective "by the end of August". Clément Beaune will meet Thursday with the bikers to discuss the terms and content of the control. As for the price, the minister assures that the visit “will cost less than 50 euros” to the French.

The European Commission had imposed since 2014 a technical control in all the countries of the European Union, in the name of the safety of motorcyclists and the protection of the environment. In August 2021, an implementing decree was issued, setting the start of technical inspection on January 1, 2023 for vehicles registered before 2016. The President of the Republic, however, suspended the decree the day after its publication in the Official Journal, believing that "it was not the time to bother the French more" in view of the health situation at the time.

The Respire, Ras le Scoot and Paris Sans Car associations then seized the Council of State to demand the application of the Community directive. The administrative court finally agreed with them on Friday, ordering the executive to draft an order within a maximum of two months.

Bikers remain, for their part, strongly opposed to the measure. At the end of April, several thousand of them demonstrated on the roads of France, at the call of the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC). The general delegate of the organization, Didier Arnoux, assured Le Figaro on Friday that the establishment of a technical control in the coming months was unthinkable, the technical control centers having "neither the equipment nor the staff" to make visits.
