Smoked salmon recalled throughout France for risk of listeria contamination

Smoked salmon will, as usual, be one of the stars of the Christmas Eve tables. But be careful that the party is not spoiled by food poisoning. Smoked salmon sold in supermarkets across France is the subject of a recall, indicates the government site Rappel Conso.

This is a batch of vacuum-packed Norwegian smoked salmon, pre-sliced by machine, in 1 kg format and brand SAS Le Fumoir. Sold by wholesalers, it was therefore distributed in supermarkets throughout France. The brands concerned are not specified by Rappel Conso. These products have been marketed since December 5, with a use-by date of January 1, 2024.

They could contain a bacteria from the Listeria family, Listeria monocytogenes, responsible for a disease, listeriosis. A rare disease, which can be serious, and whose incubation period can be up to eight weeks, specifies Rappel Conso. In France, there are “around 5 to 6 cases per million inhabitants per year, or around 400 cases each year,” indicates the Ministry of Agriculture on its website.

If you still have any of the products from the affected batch in your refrigerator, under no circumstances should you consume it. The best solution is to throw it away or return it to the store for an exchange. On the other hand, if you have consumed a potentially infected product, and you suffer from fever and/or headaches, as well as body aches, you should consult your doctor and inform him of this consumption, recommends Rappel Conso. “Serious forms with neurological complications and maternal or fetal damage in pregnant women can also sometimes occur. Pregnant women as well as immunocompromised people and the elderly must be particularly attentive to these symptoms,” adds the government platform.
