London: collision between two planes on the tarmac at Heathrow airport

Failed maneuver for a Boeing 787-9 of the Virgin Atlantic company, which collided with another aircraft on the tarmac of London Heathrow airport (United Kingdom), this Saturday April 6. While being towed, it hit the empennage of a British Airways Airbus A350 (the tail of the plane), parked at Terminal 3 with 121 passengers on board leaving for Accra in Ghana, British media report.

In videos taken after the incident and posted on social networks, we can see that part of the tail of the Airbus is damaged by the tip of the Boeing's wing. None of the passengers on board the British Airways plane were injured, the company assures the Daily Mail. As for the Virgin Atlantic one, it was empty at the time of impact.

Numerous emergency vehicles were deployed preventively on site by the airport, particularly in the event of a fuel leak. It was a Virgin Atlantic subcontractor who carried out the towing maneuver of the plane, the company told the BBC, specifying that it had opened an internal investigation. The device will be inspected and repaired if necessary.

British Airways also withdrew its damaged aircraft from circulation while the damage was assessed and repaired. The passengers were able to be transported to Accra on another plane, six hours late. The incident did not affect the rest of flights at Heathrow, the airport said.
