Fuel prices: before the returns from the Pentecost weekend, petrol and diesel up slightly

Bad news for motorists. Gasoline and diesel prices rose slightly this week, according to calculations by Fig Data, made via public data from the Ministry of Energy Transition. While SP-98, SP-95 and also E10 had reached their highest point in April, these fuels are now flirting with their low point in January. At the same time, diesel is hardly changing after a record drop: thirteen cents in just one month.

In detail, the SP-98 gained less than a penny and remains below two euros (1.9292 euros) on Thursday. The SP-95 and the E10 followed the trend, at 1.882 and 1.8455 euros respectively, with a small increase of 0.4 and 0.7 cents. The situation is almost similar for diesel: a liter costs 1.6942 euros, 0.5 cents more than last week.

If we consider prices since the beginning of this year, the rise remains 1.8% for E10, 1.8% for SP-95 and 1.6% for SP-98. On the other hand, diesel lost 11.3% of its value in 2023 and went from being the most expensive fuel to being the most advantageous.

As a reminder, since March 1 and until the end of the year, the prices of diesel and SP-95 are capped at 1.99 euros in TotalEnergies service stations. A gesture made under pressure from the government.

Even if the barrel of Brent from the North Sea had soared at the beginning of April following the announcement by the members of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Producing Countries) of drastic cuts in production to bring up the course, it has since fallen considerably. Abdelaziz ben Salman, the Saudi Minister of Energy, however, advised against betting on a drop in futures prices. Oil cost 76.75 dollars on Friday against 75.58 last week, a slight increase.
