Energy check: who will receive this aid and what will be the amount?

Automatically sent to the lowest 20% of French households, the energy check is “aid paid, subject to means conditions, for the payment of energy bills (electricity, gas, heat), the purchase of heating fuel ( wood, fuel oil, LPG, etc.), and certain energy works”, as the Ministry of the Economy and Finance recalled this Saturday.

From Tuesday April 2, “nearly 5.6 million low-income households in France will receive the energy check without any prior action” at their home, explains Bercy, before specifying that the shipments will be spread out until April 25 depending on the department of residence. Who is eligible and for what amount? Le Figaro takes stock.

The amount of the check varies according to the reference tax income for 2021, according to a very precise scale communicated by the Ministry of the Economy and Finance. And for those who don't know how to find out if they are eligible for this aid, a simulator is available to them on the dedicated site: chequeenergie.gouv.fr

Knowing that for 2024, the beneficiaries are the same as those eligible in 2023. For all intents and purposes, an online system will be put in place by this summer to allow households to make a claim, if they are not eligible but believe they are.

The amount of this aid is between 48 and 277 euros, depending on each person's income, and according to the barometer below:

Concretely, a single person will be able to receive 48 euros (for a reference level between 7850 and 11,000 euros), 98 euros (for a reference level between 6800 and 7850 euros), 146 euros (for a reference level between 5700 and 6800 euros) and up to 194 euros (for a reference level below 5700 euros).

According to the same scale, a couple will be able to receive 63 euros, 113 euros, 176 euros or up to 240 euros. When a family can receive 76 euros, 126 euros, 202 euros or up to 277 euros.

Beneficiaries of the energy check can use it to pay their energy bills, purchase heating fuel as well as certain energy work. Knowing that “all professionals in the sectors concerned are required to accept the energy check (...) which cannot be cashed with a banking organization”, reminds Bercy.

In detail, eligible households will be able to pay their bills for electricity, natural gas, other heating fuels (wood, domestic fuel, etc.), their heating charges included in housing fees. -homes approved for personalized housing assistance (APL), as well as in EHPADs, EHPAs, independent residences, establishments and long-term care units (USLD).

They will also be able to pay certain expenses linked to the energy renovation of the home, carried out by a certified professional Recognized environmental guarantor (RGE). And big news this year, the energy check can also be used to pay rental charges including energy costs in social housing.

For the first time this year, France Services houses - a network of 2,700 local one-stop shops scattered throughout France bringing together several administrations on the same site - are offering support for the use of energy checks. There, users will be able to be informed and supported by France Services advisors for procedures related to the energy check.
