End of the green sticker, prices of medicines… What changes from April 1

It's time to do some spring cleaning and it's not an April Fool's joke. From April 1, several new measures will apply and will affect the daily lives of French people. Mandatory technical inspection for two-wheelers, revaluation of social benefits, end of the winter break... Le Figaro takes a look at the changes to expect from this month of April.

Due to inflation, certain social benefits - active solidarity income (RSA), activity bonus, family allowances or even allowance for disabled adults (AAH) - are increased on April 1 by 4.6%. For the RSA for example, the amount for a single beneficiary will increase by 28 euros per month next month, going from 607.75 euros to 635.71 euros.

From April 15, two-wheelers will be subject - like cars - to a compulsory technical inspection every three years. Announced by Emmanuel Macron in mid-January, the doubling of medical deductibles - or the sums deducted from reimbursements made by Health Insurance - will officially come into force on March 31.

For medicines - covered by Social Security -, the 50 cent franchise previously applied to a box will increase to 1 euro. This doubling will also apply to procedures carried out by a medical assistant (nurse, masseur-physiotherapist, speech therapist, psychomotor therapist, chiropodist-podiatrist, etc.), increasing to 1 euro, and to medical transport (from 2 to 4 euros).

No more maps and green stickers in the corner of the windshield from April 1st. Registered vehicles can now be checked by the police, regarding their insurance, directly via the insured vehicle file (FVA) using the registration plate. However, car or motorcycle insurance remains compulsory and essential.

Without a sticker, drivers will still have to keep an “insured memo”, the size of a credit card, in their vehicle, which must be given to them by their insurance company.

The month of April also marks the start of the annual income declaration, for the calculation of 2024 tax. This year, the online service will open on April 11. Please note, from April 1, certain financial aid from the MaPrimeRénov’ system will be reduced. These relate to the installation of wood heating, which will be reduced by 30%. More precisely, they concern the installation of wood stoves, pellet stoves, fireplace inserts or even biomass boilers.

Start of spring and therefore end of winter: the winter break ends on March 31, 2024. Like every year, for five months, from November 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, an owner could not evict a tenant if the reasons concerned unpaid rent, nuisance or even non-compliance with co-ownership regulations. This measure helps protect people who may find themselves homeless during the winter season.

A small revolution. From April 1, the composition of female intimate protection products (tampons, towels, menstrual cups and panties) must be detailed on their packaging or instructions for use.

More precisely, manufacturers must detail the list of components, with “for each of them, the details of the substances and materials incorporated”, “the mention of the methods and precautions for use”, as well as “the possible undesirable effects (irritation , intolerances, allergies, microtraumas) or more serious such as menstrual toxic shock syndrome (TSS), indicated the Fraud Repression (DGCCRF).
